What do you think if I told you that you already have everything you needed to get in better shape?
What about if I told you that you already know the exercises you should be doing?
Would you believe me if I told you there is only 1 workout you need to lose fat, get bigger, faster, stronger?
Would you believe me, or would you laugh at me?
Today’s fitness world brings codependency. Trainers or dependent on their clients, clients are dependent on their trainers, and everyone that uses a gym is dependent on the facility itself, and everything in the facility.
This is even true for Cross Fit.
Cross Fit always existed. Someone was just lucky enough and brave enough to market it properly.
Think about it. Cross (meaning multiple) Fit, or multiple ways to get fit, stay fit and measure fitness.
Ways to get fit:
Do more today than you did yesterday. Keep doing this until you either plateau or die. Simply put, fitness starts with the next step. How fast you make that step is however completely up to you. Do you fear that step because it is going to hurt? Do you keep telling yourself “there is no time, I am too busy, I have too many kids or I have too much work”? Do you find ways to give in to yourself when you do not want to train? In other words, do you wake up every day gung ho, that this will be the day you start getting in shape?
What does “in shape” mean to you?
Ways to stay fit:
Keep trying to get fit. Simple isn’t it. Do not be happy with the status quo, but do not hate yourself for not being happy. Use that energy toward making yourself happy in your own skin. Think about it, if you magically had a new you tomorrow when you wake up, how would you plan that day? What would you do differently? If you are single, would you have the guts to ask that person you have been thinking about asking out on a date?
Would you put on a pair of skinny jeans? Would you wear a bathing suit? A bikini? Go topless at a nude beach?
Think about all of the possibilities! They are endless. You would have more energy, you could eat whatever you want without having to think to yourself “I will have to run 3 extra miles tomorrow to burn this off”.
If you are in the process of getting ready to get fit, start right now. Get down on your hands and knees and pump out 10 pushups. Then roll over and pump out 10 leg raises. Go ahead, I will wait right here….
You’re back, that took longer than I expected. Are you out of breath? Not to worry! When you are done reading this, you are going to repeat that and add 10 squats, 10 jumping jacks, 10 lunges and 10 sprints around the house/office. Then you are going to pick up your 5 year old or a jug of water and raise them over your head 10 times, each hand if you can.
Now run over here and buy a TRX. Can’t afford the TRX this time, no worries. Get a towel , roll it up and put it behind a bed post so that you can grad one side with your left hand and one with your right. Now “row” for 10 times.
Fitness is really simple; it is human nature to make everything difficult. Do not be scared. Understand that you may feel a little discomfort along the way. That’s normal. You will be operating outside your daily norms from now on, until your new norm is to love the hurt. Go into your own Paincave to find solace. Use it as meditation. Listen to music. Get to know your body.
You have all the tools you need. You already know the motions to do. You need to push things, you need to pull things, you need to squat, you need to pick things up. You need to jump. You need to run. You need to punch and kick. You can even punch or kick the air, it doesn’t matter.
That’s it. All this other “fitness” stuff is fluff and variations of these basic movements. These are the main movements you need to perform. You don’t need a gym. You don’t need weights. All you need is your body and your mind.
Plyometrics (jumping or moving dynamically)
If you haven’t started your fitness path, start now. Start with 10 reps of these movements everyday for a week. Then add 5 reps, or 5 laps. Do that for a week and add 5 more. It is that easy. The only thing stopping you is yourself.
